I am Dr. D. Gary Brown, CIH, RS, DAAS, currently holding the esteemed position of Graduate Program Coordinator and Foundation Professor in the Environmental Health Science and Sustainability (EHSS) Department at Eastern Kentucky University (EKU). In addition, I serve as an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the University of West Indies (UWI) Mona in the OESH Program in Kingston, Jamaica—a role I’ve held since 2007.

My professional journey in environmental health spans over 30 years, starting at the entry level as a laboratory technician and steadily progressing to managerial roles. This diverse experience has provided me with a comprehensive understanding of the intricacies at all job levels, gained through engagements with both public and private entities, including entrepreneurship with my own business.

Beyond academia, I am a sought-after consultant for government and private entities, contributing my expertise nationally and internationally. My extensive background in occupational and environmental safety and health has led to my role as an instructor for the EKU OSHA Training Institute Education Center since its inception in 2003.

In terms of leadership, I had the honor of assuming the presidency of the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) from 2022 through 2023. My influence also extends to leadership roles within the Kentucky Environmental Health Association (KYEHA), Association of Environmental Health Academic Programs, and the National Environmental Health Science & Protection Accreditation Council (EHAC). As a Life Member of the Jamaica Association of Public Health Inspectors (JAPHI), I maintain a strong connection to the international community.
